These are freakin’ Bristlebots – the coolest thing invented since sliced bread. They are, by far, the easiest kits to make, and they excite a lot of young kids... or at least those who are young at heart.

Their vibrating action comes from the pager motor attached to the back of the back of the toothbrush’s head, and the bristles help it move. If what we're building looks like it’s something out of Tony Stark’s Playbook, it’s because it probably is. No, we’re not building the Mach III version of Ironman, but it’s close. After you're done with it though, we guarantee you’ll feel like The Stark himself.

What we’re talking about is a Kipduino, a do-it-yourself Arduino. If Tony Stark had an Arduino when he was in that one desert, he would've built that thing a lot faster, killed all the bad guys a lot faster, wouldn’t be as hungry for Burger King, and came home to Pepper Potts that much faster.

Arduinos already exist.. why not just buy one?

That’s just silly.. Iron Man doesn’t just buy his suit – he builds it! That way he gets more statisfaction when he blow up things, knowing he built the freakin missile. Do you want that kind of satisfaction? (that’s not even a question).

This little knock knock ruse sound familiar? Well you’re not alone.

Do you know that every year over 100 million Americans lock themselves out of their own home? Nope, we didn't either. That was a made up statistic. But we reckon the number is close to that.

Let me ask you a question...

When was the last time you left your keys at home?

Or something equally worse... when was the last time you left your house, only to find out that you had forgotten to lock the door?! 

With that in mind, we designed this month’s DIY Kipkay Kit – a DIY door lock that opens at your beckon call.

This is the most functional Kipkay Kit we have ever designed! The door lock works on just about any door lock that has a deadbolt – so you can secure your room and whatever other room you want to hide your secret stash. Did I also tell you that you can program your own secret codes so that only YOU can open the door!?

This is also one of the easiest and kid-friendly! It’s so easy that we have tested this on a 10 year old kid – they completed the kit in less than 2 hours!  There are less than 15 parts in the kit to put together, and the programming is a piece of cake!

The kit has a regular servo motor that will open most door locks, with about 3.8kg/cm of torque – it also comes with a DIY momentary switch keypad so you can enter a 9-digit number for your lock.

A mindful note of caution – this door lock is only good for keeping out humans, and probably humans who aren't professional burglars or thieves. We recommend you don't use it to secure your house – as it should be used for entertainment purposes only. Oh and yea... this door lock won't keep out ghosts either... they have skeleton keys.

Why did I create Kipkay Kits?

Hey there fellow gadgeteer,

Kipkay here. I have been making gadgets and DIY stuff over 10 years now. My work has been featured in national publications like MAKE magazine, and I have had one of the TOP DIY and hack channels on YouTube, Blip.TV, and Metacafe.
